Park Sang Chul is one of South Korea’s leading medical scholars, who has devoted his entire career to the life sciences and medicine, particularly to research on aging. He graduated from the College of Medicine at Seoul National University and went on to earn both his master’s degree and PhD in medicine at the same institution. He later served as a professor at Seoul National University College of Medicine, playing a pivotal role in laying the foundation for aging research in Korea.
Over the course of his career, he has held numerous prominent positions, including Director of the Aging and Senior Society Research Institute at Seoul National University, Director of the Lee Gil-yeo Cancer and Diabetes Institute at Gachon University, Vice President of the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology, and Distinguished (Chair) Professor at Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST), where he led interdisciplinary research integrating basic medical science and clinical practice.
He is currently a Research Chair Professor at Chonnam National University, a Distinguished (Chair) Professor at Seoul School of Integrated Sciences & Technologies (aSSIST), and an Advisor to the Aging and Senior Society Research Institute at Seoul National University. He is a lifetime member of both the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and the National Academy of Medicine of Korea and also serves as Chairman of the Korea Support Committee of the International Vaccine Institute (IVI).
He has previously served as president of several academic societies, including the Korean Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, the Korean Society of Aging, the International Association of Gerontology, and the International Centenarian Research Consortium. In addition, he contributed to establishing national-level research infrastructure as Director of the Aging Cell Death Research Center under the Ministry of Science and Technology.
His major publications include A Hundred-Year-Old Mother, an Eighty-Year-Old Son, How to Age with Dignity, Nothing Is More Beautiful Than Life, Korea’s Centenarians, The Aging Revolution, and Magnum Opus 2.0, among others.
