Kwon Soon Yong is a leading authority in orthopedics and a pioneer in the field of digital healthcare. He graduated from the College of Medicine at The Catholic University of Korea, obtained board certification as an orthopedic surgeon, and earned a doctoral degree from a graduate school of medicine. He further developed his international expertise through advanced training at the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) and Washington University in St. Louis.

He has held numerous key leadership positions in medical administration, including Head of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Chief Professor at Yeouido St. Mary’s Hospital of The Catholic University of Korea, the inaugural Medical Director, the final President of St. Paul’s Hospital, and the first and second President of Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital. Notably, he personally designed and led the opening of Eunpyeong St. Mary’s Hospital, which is recognized as the world’s first smart hospital, thereby presenting a benchmark model for healthcare institutions in Korea.

As the founding President of the Korean Society of Digital Health, he participated in the development of an AI-based voice-recognition electronic medical record system (Voice EMR·ENR). His academic achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Best Paper Award from the Korean Orthopaedic Research Society, the Otto Aufranc Award from the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and the Handok Academic and Management Award.

He has also served as Head of the Medical Support Team for the PyeongChang Winter Olympics, and as President of several professional societies, including the Korean Orthopaedic Research Society, the Korean Society of Medical Appraisal, the Korean Society for Medical 3D Printing, and the Korean Society of Digital Health. He is currently President of the Korean Society for Geriatric Musculoskeletal Medicine and serves as an Expert Member of the Presidential Committee on Healthcare Reform.

His published works include Mentors of Great Physicians, Them and The Era of Meta-Medicine Has Arrived. He also engages with the general public through media appearances, including the EBS program Master Physicians.
